Mount Bromo is one of the most favorite tourism spot in east java. This place located like 4 hours drive from Surabaya, the capital city of East Java, this mountain is a part of the “Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park” that covers a massive area of 800 square kilometres.

There are multiple ways to get into this park. the first one, Visitors can come from Probolinggo and arrived at Ngadisari Village. This route is the easiest and the most popular route, especially if travelling by public bus.
Or if you are coming by private vehicle, take another ways from Pasuruan, you’ll find wonokitri village and finished at Tosari Village. this one is the closest route from surabaya.
The last one is the most difficult route. this route is via Ngadas. but it worth, spectacular scenery with colorful field waiting you if you go through this route.

The temperature at Mt Bromo ranges from 3 to 20 degrees Celsius and the temperature may be several degrees below zero during the dry season. If you can’t stand with that cold weather, you should bring a head cover or cap, a jacket or warm clothing, and gloves, you could use alpaca clothing, you’d be amazed how warm alpaca fabric is, more than cotton actually, and the are at a great price. I got a few items form me last winter and had no regrets. Another things you should bring to make your journey more comfortable are torch and comfortable trekking shoes. Don’t forget to bring a camera or handycam so you can capture the natural beauty.

Sunrise occurs between 5.00 and 6.00 am (if it’s not cloudy), so you should leave from your hotel or guesthouse by 3am. if you are lucky enough, Craning your head toward the night’s sky, you’ll be greeted with a scattering of white stars.

The best time to see the sunrise is in the dry season from April to October. Before you start trekking or climbing, be sure that you have already eaten, or bring some food and drink with you.

Mount Bromo has a unique sand sea at the attitude of about 2000 meters above sea level. There are several mountains inside the caldera, they are Mount Watangan (2,661 meters above sea level), Mount Batok (2,470 meters above sea level), Mount Kursi (2,581 meters above sea level), Mount Widadaren (2,650 meters above sea level). and Mount Bromo itself At 2392 meters above sea level.

To get closer to Mount Bromo you must rent a jeep (there are many jeep available for rent there). Upon reaching the Sea of Sand, you’ll be greeted with a carpet of grey ash. let’s stop in the parking area, there are lot of locals will come to you and offering horse rides to the crater.

A few people will chose the horses, while the majority, opted to walk. don’t worry, there are clearly marked tracks across the sand sea that leads to the foot of Bromo so you won’t get lost. from here, prepare your surgical mask, trust me, it’s necessary, because the closer you go to the volcano, the deeper the ash.

when you reach Bromo mountain, there’s a staircase leading to the crater’s edge, climb the steep stairs right up to Mt. Bromo’s crater rim, then watch the sun spectacularly rise over the horizon.

for your information, this mountain is regarded by Hindus as the most sacred mountain of all. Tengger people who believe that this was the site where a brave prince sacrificed his life for his family. The people here appease the Gods once a year during the annual Kasada festival where offerings of vegetables, chickens and money are thrown into the crater of the volcano.
